![]() TOP FUEL WINNER FAS COONASS RACING'S RANDAL ANDRAS
by Becky Texas Motorcycle Drag Racing started our first motorcycle racing adventure with Angleton Raceway in Angleton, TX on August 4, 2007. Raiding the Great Country of Texas, this track was invaded by the most Awesome, Nitro-snortin’ Mean Harleys this side of the Mississippi River. There was an episode of a twenty minute rain shower about gate opening time but it didn’t dampened anybody’s spirit because they still came through in groves. After the bout of rain, the sky cleared and everyone pitched together to dry the track to be able to get down to the business of the nite- drag-racin’. After the drying process (even our t-shirts), we and the crayfish witnessed some of the best racin’ of the summer. Every imaginable bike from Harley sportsman to mixed bike bracket racer, took many laps down the tarmac before the big fellas. We want to thank our sponsors, Fas Coonass Racing’s Randal Andras and TMFC Racing Team. A special thanks to The Tribe of Judah, Amsoil, Jesus Lovin’ Biker Babes, Parson’s Project for Blue Santa, American Legion, Wolf Accessories, and CMA Fast Lane for helping support our first event. Jesus Lovn’ Biker Bikes held a silent auction for a young man to help with his need for his two kidneys and pancreas transplant. (They still need your help, please.) I want to thank Wolf Accessories for being the sponsor of the bikini contest. Since the rain messed up the big Nitro Harley bike racing schedule, the first round of Top Fuel and Pro Fuel was introduced with the first run down the track by T/F Tribe of Judah’s Brian Jernigan. I want to personally thank Ben Priest and all of his members for their support. This was Brian’s very first pass on this monster bike in four years. After he made his pass, every other large Nitro Harley followed suite. If we were to stay on schedule for the eliminations, we should have moved on with just one round of top fuel/pro fuel qualifying out of three. However, we gave them a choice to either make another pass for a better qualifying number or to on to our elimination and make everyone’s night longer. They, of course, elected to have more track time-another lap for qualifying. This track was hard and unforgiving on their machines and there were many breakdowns. Plus, it’s harder to de-bump (make slower) a big bike than bump it up (make faster)…this track required de-bumped bikes for a safe pass. The Pro Fuel also jumped into the Top Fuel group to fill the ladder. I want to personally thank top fueler M.A.D. Racing Mark Derryberry of Baytown for coming out. He’s sponsored by his business Derryberry A/C. I, also, want to thank this fella and crew for making the big trek from Haughton, LA with his big Pro fueler, Hafasst Racing’s Phillip Matlock. He is the current point leader in the division of AMRA. Unfortunately, he broke during qualifying. He’s sponsored by Shavers Catering, The Plumbing Warehouse, Red River Supply, Vic Garrett Motors and Bayou Security Systems, Tony "Pony" Performance. Phillip is the pilot. He wants to personally thank his Crew Chief: Bruce Gray, Crew Members: Cathy Matlock, Sean Gray, Mark Long, Scott Meyers, Neil "Doc" Maciver. Phillip wants to send a huge THANK YOU to his Support Team members ABATE of Bossier City, La., Lonnie and Suzan Thacker, Rosie Asbek and all of my friends at Coyotes Bar and Grill and Fuds II. The first round of Harley Top Fuel eliminations saw Fas Coonass Racing’s Randal Andras performing a solo bye-run. The second round saw “Nitro” Scott Ianaro of Channelview, TX versus Montgomery, TX’s Tracy Riley. “Nitro” Scott is sponsored by KT’s Cycles. Tracy is sponsored by Big Red Rentals and Top Flight Trailers and Equipment. “Nitro” Scott developed mechanical problems before leaving the starting line and Riley took the win. The third round saw Tribe of Judah Brian Jernigan versus Jimbo Knight. Brian took this win. The last round saw Metalcraft Racing’s Hal Cort versus Bandido Sharky of N. Houston Racing Team. Bandido Sharky took a hard hit with a loss over Hal Cort. The second round of T/F eliminations saw Fas Coonass versus Riley. Montgomery’s Tracy Riley is not new to this track as he’s been here couple times before…so he had the advantage over Fas Coonass for never being here. However, that didn’t work out as Fas Coonass Racing’s Randal Andras turned out victorious with an et 5.6503 at 124.86 mph. Tracy ran an et 6.4063 at 95.30 mph. The final pair saw Hal Cort versus Brian Jernigan. Metalcraft Racing Hal Cort had an injured motor and was out for the night. Tribe of Judah’s Brian Jernigan accomplished a solo bye-win with an et 5.6392 at 108 mph. The final round of Top Fuel eliminations was paired-Fas Coonass versus Tribe of Judah. Here was the big showdown of the night-Saturday nite Under the Lites…the main event of the summer!! The Tribe of Judah Racing’s Brian Jernigan out of Humble, TX has seen much vicious, fist-fightin’ action in years gone by on all kinds of racetracks across the country. Brian loves monster, Nitro speed. Fas Coonass Racing’s Randal Andras of Amelia, LA has a few seasons under his belt but this year he has pride with a new ride. Randal also lives for the thrill of muscle-powered speed on two-wheels. Just by experiencing the time it goes down this 1/8th mile track, both fellas will produce enough adrenaline and energy to light up New York City. These adrenaline junkies were met to meet…they were primed to be buds in the pits but foes at the starting line. As they were preparing to fire-up their extreme rides, a little handshake by both and a little prayer from each within crew members was the norm before each take-off. The stress of anticipation was bouncing and flowing amongst everyone from the spectator fence line off the referees and back to the pilots. The kill switches were carefully attached between the pilots and the bikes… the pilots mounted their monster bikes… the starter crew members fired over each motor over… then the thunder of extreme horse-power started grueling and the ground started rumbling like a class 5 earthquake. The noise was to such an extreme that the wax in everyone’s ears fell out. These Show-stoppin’, Awe-striking, Nitro-snortin’, thunder-makers, earth-rumbling Monsters were set on the kill mode. They meant business…and they sure did take care of business. Both bikes lunged towards their starting lines spiting out combined smells of Nitro and burning tire rubber with magnificent, bellowing clouds engulfing everyone around. The tension accelerated amongst the crowd as the X-Mas tree lites fell ever so slowly…the short seconds felt like a life-time of living. The tree turned green and off they roared…front wheels up off the track…totally relying on their faith in God & wheelie-bars from flipping over backwards. In just five seconds, the main event was over. By mere fraction of a second the results were in, Fas Coonass Randal Andras was victorious with an et over Tribe of Judah’s Brian Jernigan’s. I want to thank Top Alcoholer Beetle Bailey of Austin, TX for taking the win for first place.
